Following the success of the first edition of “Master’s Hands” with Ferdinando Scianna, Fratelli Rossetti proposed a new theme and two new artists for the year 2012. The focus was on “tradition” and “innovation”, two distinct yet deeply related concepts; just like the photographers Giovanni Gastel and his nephew Guido Taroni. Guido illustrated “tradition” focusing on small gestures, manual skill and the passion of handcrafted work (from a Milanese pastry chef to a Calabrian potter). Giovanni investigated “innovation” attempting to convey the artistic brilliance of some of the greatest contemporary artisans (such as Giorgio Forattini, Arnaldo Pomodoro and Vanessa Beecroft). Guido’s photos are romantic, full of colour, feeling and attention to detail – shot on location; Giovanni concentrated on black and white contrasts, sharp focus on eyes and faces, humour and simplicity – shooting all artists from his studio. The exhibition opened at Palazzo Serbelloni, Milan on the 29th of September and ended on the 9th of October.
